The AP is running a story on how video games are influencing the music sales and popularity of bands
featured in games from href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/08/23/very-short-tony-hawk-american-wasteland-preview/#c251648">Tony Hawk’s
American Wasteland
to FIFA 2006, detailing how an unknown Ghanian reggae singer is now stocked on
iTunes and is enjoying much greater success because his single "Run" was included in the latter game’s
soundtrack.

Video-game music isn’t as prominent in the States as it is in Europe and Japan, but it’s slowly
finding its way, even if
there have been a few
setbacks
in the recent past. Nevertheless, game music is selling, as Jon Kertzer, business development manager for
MSN Music, says: "We’re selling lots of Xbox music on the downloads site. There’s lots of interest."
/>In the meantime, we’re left to consider how successful music downloads will be when one-click purchases become easily
accessible on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Oh, and if you’ve got "the right Latino hip-hop sound" (that kinda
resembles that of the rapper Fat Joe), then get in touch with the folks making the third True Crime game.
They’re looking to sign someone like you.

[Thanks, Mike]

Libby Files for More Documents on Reporters

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

There’s movement in the Scooter Libby case today. Tom Maguire has the basics and the news links to Libby’s latest attempt to put the media on trial. I just downloaded the filed documents. Here is what Libby is seeking:

1. All documents and other information reflecting knowledge by any news reporter or employee of a news organization of Valerie Plame Wilson’s possible affiliation with the CIA or her role in connection with Joseph Wilson’s trip to Niger prior to July 14, 2003.

2. All documents and other information reflecting any mention of Valerie Plame Wilson in any communication between a news reporter and a government official, another news reporter, an employee of a news organization, or any other person prior to July 14, 2003.

Resident Evil 4 heading to PC?

After sweeping up enough game of the year
awards to keep the franchise around for another decade, Resident Evil 4 may be
heading to PCs to finish what its started. According to European retailer Play’s website, Resident Evil 4 is scheduled to hit PCs on March 31st. We all know how unreliable retailers websites
can be, but Blue’s News is href="http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=64008">reporting that Capcom Germany
delivered an unofficial confirmation (whatever that means).

It seems plausible enough; they’ve already made
a fortune off both the PS2 and GCN versions, and they’d be in good company. Condemned, another console creeper, is href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/12/condemned-lurks-onto-the-pc-in-march/">heading to the PC as well. Now PC
gamers can grab a href="http://reviews.joystiq.com/2006/01/26/xbox-360-controller-for-windows-great-hardware-weak-software/">Windows Xbox
360 controller and sit back on their couch in their computer
chair and wait until late March.

Louima Cop Seeks Sentence Reduction

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Former NYC cop Charles Schwarz, convicted in one of the most brutal cop-beatings ever, that of Haitian immigrant Abner Louima who was sodomized with a broomstick in the police station, is seeking a sentence reduction. Schwarz was convicted of perjury by lying when he told authorities he was not in the bathroom of the police station when fellow cop Justin Volpe, now doing 30 years for the assault, attacked Louima.

Prosecutors say Schwarz held Louima down while another officer sodomized the handcuffed prisoner with a broken broomstick; Schwarz maintains he wasn’t there.

Schwarz was sentenced to 60 months and maintains prosecutors promised to ask the Bureau of prisons to cut 13 months off his sentence if he refrained from publicly discussing the case. The prosecutors made the request and BOP turned it down. Schwarz is now seeking to have the Judge throw out his original 5 year sentence and resentence him to 47 months.

Homebrew on PSPs running firmware 2.01 through 2.50!

We knew that
it was only a matter of time until someone got homebrew goodness up and running on PSPs running the supposedly
"unhackable" firmware upgrades from 2.01 on, and friends, that day has arrived. PSP Updates forum moderator
and presumably Sony Enemy #1 Fanjita has posted a version of his eLoader software that works with 2.01 through 2.50
versions of the firmware, and utilizes the same Grand Theft Auto exploit that has been previously used to load homebrew
swag. So far only a handful of games and emulators have been tested with the new boot loader, but the list seems to be
growing literally by the hour. Never underestimate what a dedicated group of fanboys can pull off with enough time and
Red Bull.
