ZoomTags and Commerical Tag Clouds

Monday, January 30th, 2006

ZoomTags, based in SunnyVale, California, is a professional implementation of the commericial tagcloud idea introduced by 1000Tags, which I wrote about earlier this month.
ZoomTags is an API-based solution and allows blogs and other websites to place a commercial tagcloud on their sites. Like 1000Tags, Zoomtags allows advertisers to bid on tags or keywords in a […]

Cannibals and Hunting Licenses

Monday, January 30th, 2006

by TChris

Strangest statement by an Idaho bureaucrat so far this week:

“The result in Idaho is that you could theoretically be a convicted cannibal and still have a hunting license,” said Ed Mitchell, a spokesman for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game in Boise. “But if you are a convicted cannibal, you cannot legally own a bent BB gun in the state of Idaho.”

Do a large number of convicted cannibals apply for hunting licenses in Idaho?

Seattle’s use of ‘12th Man’ upsets Aggies

Texas A&M sought a restraining order Monday against the Seattle Seahawks, asking the NFC champions to stop promoting the “12th Man” marketing campaign.

Raw Reax #2: “Triple H looks that he will ‘bully’ his way to the championship match at WrestleMania.”

Monday, January 30th, 2006

If we’re supposed to be on the Road to WrestleMania, WWE just hit their mailbox backing out of the driveway with this show. An intriguing face-off between Vince and HBK starts off the show, but gets no follow up later. RVD wrestles a boring match against Snitsky, who somehow still has a job. Dusty Rhodes exercises the “put my doughy son back on TV” clause in his new contract. And they stick Shelton with him, no less. Triple H, one of my favorite wrestlers, gratuitously exploits Eddie’s death for cheap heat. Bright spots for me were the solid exposition of big-man wrestling from Big Show & Kane, the comically inept Spirit Squad, and the continuing Trish-Mickie-Ashley soap opera…

Raw Reax #1: “I get the feeling Hunter is going to bully Rey into putting his main event slot on the line.”

Monday, January 30th, 2006

One of the best Raw’s in recent memory. I thought all the matches were solid and entertaining. With the whole The Masterlock can’t be broken even by Kane, Masters will only get stronger. I would really like to see a Masters vs. Big Show match. The Trish-Mickie stuff just keeps getting better, and although it hints, I don’t think they have exposed entirely where the storyline is going. The fan interaction during the night was good, especially during that segment. The low-point of the show was John Cena retaining the title. Sorry, but Cena bores me. All in all, a solid Raw though…

Publishers Say ‘Fact-Checking Too Costly’

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Mr. Ghost writes “Members of the book publishing industry say that profit margins are too small to fact check “non-fiction” books. Instead they rely on the “honesty” of the authors submitting the book. This has come to a head with the revelation from the author of “Million Little Pieces” that he lied about the accounts in his memoirs.”

GA Politicians Shrug at Death Penalty Concerns

Monday, January 30th, 2006

by TChris

There are so many flaws in Georgia’s administration of the death penalty that it took the ABA 323 pages to recount them all. The ABA wants Georgia to impose a moratorium on the death penalty until it resolves those problems. It’s predictable that Georgia’s Republican governor meets that suggestion with a yawn; it’s distressing that the Democratic candidate for that office is equally unconcerned.

An ABA panel said it found seven weaknesses in the state’s application of capital punishment. They included no guarantee of counsel at a habeas corpus appeal based on constitutional or procedural grounds; confusing jury instructions; and what the panel considered an unfair standard of proof for defendants to show mental retardation.

Savings Rate Lowest Since Great Depression

Monday, January 30th, 2006

By MARTIN CRUTSINGER, AP Economics Writer: Americans are spending everything they’re making and more, pushing the national savings rate to the lowest point since the Great Depression. Soaring home prices apparently have convinced people they don’t have to worry about saving, a belief that could… [San Francisco Chronicle]
