Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

Palo Alto based lala made a splash by announcing their landing page on USA Today (wow, you sure don’t see USA Today announcing new companies very often - I wonder how they got this scoop). Lala is a new service, set to launch this summer, that allows people to swap physical CDs.

Famitsu fetes Final Fantasy XII with 40/40 review score

review scores from Famitsu" />
Final Fantasy XII
may still be a ways off for Western gamers, but it’s right on
the verge of being released in Japan, having scored a perfect review from the folks at Famitsu.

It
ain’t easy earning a 40 out of 40 from Famitsu, a feat which only the following titles have duplicated up to
now: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Soul Calibur (for Dreamcast), Vagrant Story,
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Nintendogs.

The score should hopefully reassure
FF fans who’ve been shaken by all the game’s delays in release and changes in personnel (as well as gameplay).
At any rate, the title’s localization for other territories should be well underway, even if the release dates outside
of Japan haven’t been officially announced yet.

[Thanks, Miyamoto]

‘No Quick Fix’ From Nuclear Power

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

humoly writes to tell us BBC News is reporting that while many are calling for nuclear power, new nuclear plants are not the answer to combating climate changes or the wavering energy concerns for the UK. From the article: “The Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) report says doubling nuclear capacity would make only a small impact on reducing carbon emissions by 2035. The body, which advises the government on the environment, says this must be set against the potential risks. The government is currently undertaking a review of Britain’s energy needs.”
