Business Week’s
running an interview with Microsoft Corporate VP Peter Moore in which Moore was asked to opine on innovation. In
particular, he was asked to comment on the innovation the TV remote-style controller that will come bundled with
Nintendo’s newest console.

Moore’s response: “If the controller is different and innovative; fine.
But I would say that Xbox Live is the bigger innovation. It depends on your definition of innovative. If having a DVD
style controller defines innovation; great. I would argue that talking millions of gamers and connecting them with
friends and strangers around the world… I’d call that pretty innovative.”

There are a few ways to settle
this debate. Which one took more engineering brawn to develop? Which one will drive more sales? Which one will change
the face of gaming more? Will either innovation be remembered years from now as a flop? Which of the two is actually
more fun to use? Which of the two provides gamers with the most value?

Earl Woods, who became the role model, architect and driving force behind Tiger Woods’s career, has died at home. He was 74.

“My dad was my best friend and greatest role model and I will miss him deeply,” Tiger Woods said on his website. “I’m overwhelmed when I think of all of the great things he accomplished. He was an amazing dad, coach, mentor, soldier, husband and friend. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.”

Yankees 4, Devil Rays 2

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

With Alex Rodriguez struggling with runners in scoring position, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays took a calculated gamble against the New York Yankees slugger — and lost. Rodriguez snapped an 0-for-12 skid with a RBI single in the 10th inning, helping the Yankees finish a 4-2 comeback victory over the Devil Rays, who elected to pitch to the two-time American League MVP with first base open and runners… [Yahoo Sports]

Social Consequences and Effects of RFID Implants?

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

kramdam asks: “Even with all the talk about privacy and security, there seems to be a growing community of people who are implanting themselves with RFID chips. Being a developer myself, I am intrigued about building applications and solutions that will open my doors, unlock my car, log me on to my computer and control home automation. I’m seriously considering jumping into this head first, being on the bleeding edge, and going with an implant. I have looked at resources like Mikey Sklar’s site, and Amal Graafstra’s site, since they are two pioneers on this subject. For research, I have started TaggedLife to document my own journey. I was wondering what the Slashdot community think about this. What do you think are the social, security, privacy, and health risks associated with this? What are the pluses? Would you do it?”

This turned out to be a fine five-minute match, although Team USA didn’t do much except score the win. It helped that Scott D’Amore wasn’t ringside taking away the heat from the heel Canadians. Left to their own devices, the Canadians added color to a solid tag match. There are two things I want to see more of on TNA programming: Minoru Tanaka and Tyson Dux.
