November Mantra: Get Out the Vote

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

It may seem like a distant memory now, but Democrats not so long ago dominated the battle between the parties to get their voters to the polls. Over the past half-dozen years, Republicans reinvented the system, using sophisticated computer modeling and vast amounts of consumer data. In 2002 and 2004, they demonstrated their newfound superiority — to the dismay of Democratic Party officials and their allies.

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

For the first time since 2001, the Newsweek poll shows that more Americans trust the Democrats than the GOP on moral values and the war on terror. Fully 53 percent of Americans want the Democrats to win control of Congress next month, including 10 percent of Republicans, compared to just 35 percent who want the GOP to retain power.

Wii dog tags, Wii controller gloves, Wii money making schemes

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

We’re queuing up a separate post about the markups on all this wonderful consumer cruft, but for now be satisfied with these glorious spy cam shots of Wii goodies awaiting placement in a shopping center near you.

Picking up some rubberized “controller gloves” might not be a bad idea, if you happen to get sweaty palms and want to keep your vases intact. (Don’t tell us to use the wrist strap. We don’t need no stinkin’ wrist strap. The Joystiq krew lives and plays dangerously.)

WWE has done a lousy job with Jeff Hardy’s return thus far. They threw him in the ring against Edge and then rushed him into a feud with Randy Orton when they should have been addressing the following questions…

G. Karber thinks he’s funny. Actually, he might be right, based on our experience with his awesome text-based adaptation of Pong. But before you go and waste 30 seconds playing the game, read our review, in the style of “new games journalism:”

  • Karber’s Pong is really rad! It has sweet grafix and when you win with your mouse it makes you’re score higher! LoL!
  • We give it a 10. But since it’s free, we give it a 11! Our review goes to 11! LoL!
  • You can make three moves. (1) Move your mouse up to click on “Move the great paddle up!” and then click your left mouse button and then wait a moment and then you will move the paddle up. (2) Move your mouse to click on “Hold the paddle steady!” and then click your left mouse button and then wait a moment and then you will keep the paddle steady! (3) Move your mouse to click on “Lower the paddle!” and then click your left mouse button and then wait a moment and then you will move the paddle down! The controls are very intuitive and show the potential for the innovative control scheme that comes with personal computers.
  • It is PC and Apple Macintosh compatible!
  • This is one you don’t want to miss.
  • LoL!

AllofMP3 Outsources Marketing to U.S. Government

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

AllofMP3 is a Russian web service that sells digital music at very low prices without any copy protection. The service, which would clearly be illegal in the U.S. and many other countries, continues to operate apparently legally under Russian law. Our previous coverage of AllofMP3 is here.
AllofMP3 has become the center of attention in major […]

Wii retail details: markup and endcaps

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Filed under:

Looks like peoples in the retail industry are getting pretty stoked about the Wiis about to make it into their respective stores. We got our hands on the CompUSA hardware / software markup sheet for Nintendo’s new console, as well as some spy pics of some Target Wii endcaps and the variety of accessories those will be stocking, as well. No, we’re not that hard up for stuff on the console, but we do think that $12.50 is a pretty weak margin on the console, while, as expected, games, and accessories have a much fatter profit for retailers. Anyway, check it out (price on the left is, of course, retail; price on the right is cost):

WII CONSOLE - 249.99 / 237.50
WII REMOTE CONTROLL - 39.99 / 32.00
WII POINTS CARD - 24.99 / 17.00
WII CLASSIC CONTROLLER - 19.99 / 14.50
WII NUNCHUK CONTROLLER - 19.99 / 14.50
WII GPAK ORGANIZER&TRAVEL - 29.99 / 18.95
WII RAYMAN RAVING RABIDS - 49.99 / 41.2
WII THE LEGEND OF ZELDA:TW - 49.99 / 40.00
WII RED STEEL REVOLUTION - 49.99 / 41.22

More pics after the break!

[Thanks, Los and Ian]
