Itchyballs Scratches DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE!!

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Merrick again…

Here’s Itchyballs (a condition I had all weekend) with a look at DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE. He says the film is a “guilty pleasure”.

In his e-mails to me, Itchyballs, who has reviewed for AICN before, swears he’s not a “plant” – but is instead a movie lover who sometimes becomes overzealous when championing a title. Is that the case this time around? We’ll see…

DOA looks a little too Bollian for my tastes. There’s schlock, shameless, exploitative crap (the kind Vern relishes…I like it, too!) – and then there’s…well…charmless insipidness, which is what this FEELS like to me. Maybe this is because we’ve been so roundly pummeled by video game-to-screen adaptations that it’s hard to find any hope. Or, maybe this will simply blow like all the others.

Game Releases for the Week of 10/8-10/14

Hey everybody, Dan here with this week’s gaming releases! As the weather turns nippily, publishers are beginning to gear up for the big holiday releases. But before we get there are weeks like this, filled with one or two standouts, but overall a bunch of crap (don’t miss the GBA crud being shoveled out this week at the bottom of this article). Next week looks far better though, with the next installment of Sam Fisher’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent as well as the next-gen version of Tiger Woods.

10/11 Avatar: The Last Airbender - Based on an apparently very popular Nickelodeon animated series which I have never heard of, THQ is launching versions of the video game conversion on pretty much every console this week (one for Nintendo’s Wii is also planned for that systems launch). Pretty much all the versions look the same; the game appears to be your standard top-down actioner, with bad graphics and your standard top-down gameplay.. collect items, take on enemies, rinse, repeat. Anyway, all I know is this THQ license for Nickelodeon cartoons lasts through 2010, so expect a game based on every single Nick series.

KELLER’S WWE RAW REPORT 10/9 (Hour 2): Ongoing “virtual time” coverage of live show

Monday, October 9th, 2006

DX came out for their match against Cade & Murdoch, but first went into a bit where they played off of the fact that the University of South Carolina mascot is a cock, based on thier Gamecocks nickname, and the fact that Hunter calls himself The Game. They did a bunch of puns on cocks, such as Hunter saying, “All we were doing was trying to give the cock some exposure.” He said, “It’s frustrating because first he was in, then he was out, in, out, in, out”…
