Sunni gunmen ambushed a convoy of minibuses Saturday night at a fake checkpoint on the dangerous highway south of Baghdad, killing 10 Shiite passengers and kidnapping about 50. Across the country at least 52 other people were killed in violence or were found dead, five of them decapitated Iraqi soldiers.

• NBA: Houston Rockets @ Miami Heat. Tracy McGrady called Yao Ming…
In this installment, Hall talks about guaranteed contracts and whether they caused wrestlers to lay back without incentive to produce for WCW, plus details why he, Kevin Nash, and Sean Waltman were “complete jackoffs” backstage, especially to Bischoff, and more…

Nintendo’s announcement that they’ll spend $200 million to market the Wii reminded us that we’ve been sitting on this clipping from Advertising Age (from one of the October editions of the magazine). Ad Age tells us that Microsoft’s new Xbox marketing guy (ranked 22nd in Ad Age’s list of power marketers based on his budget) has $945 million to spend advertising Microsoft’s entertainment products.
While that’s a whole lotta lucre, ain’t no telling exactly how the pie will be divided between all the attention-starved gewgaws in Microsoft’s entertainment division. Besides the Xbox 360 console itself, plenty of other MS entertainment products compete for a share of that bankroll: first party games (Halo 3), Games for Windows, Casual Games, peripherals, services (Xbox Live), Zune, etc. Whether the total figure allocated to the Xbox 360 is more or less than Nintendo’s $200 million marketing committment is the billion-dollar question.
Anybody got data on how much Sony’ll be spending on the PlayStation 3 and Blu-Ray launch? Given the importance of these products to the company’s future, chances are they’re shoveling Benjamins into that famed Sony marketing engine by the dumptruck fulls.
[Update 1: minor language tweaks. We’re told Ad Age’s information in this clipping may not be all that accurate… reader beware!]

• Andrew Walter has so far completed more passes than he hasn’t. And none of them were to Broncos or anything… no joke. He’s 10-of-17 for 100 yards with no interceptions, and the Raiders…
Maybe you’ve been itching for some video of Wii gameplay? Watch as Veronica and I make total fools of ourselves playing Wii Sports (Bowling, Tennis, Baseball, Boxing, Golf); we generally tried to stay out of the way of the camera, but weren’t always successful. Also, we’ve got the first ten or so minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on tape. It’s a pretty slow moving start, so only Zelda fans need apply. Check it out!
P.S. -Yes, by the time we hit Zelda we figured out why the TV wasn’t formatting the Wii signal properly, and got it going to 16:9.
P.P.S. -Higher res video downloads coming shortly, check back for the VGA and QVGA versions!

You better bring it! After taking a pounding in the last console generation, along with pre-E3 cries Nintendo would become a third party developer like Sega, Bloomberg reports Nintendo will spend in excess of $200 million marketing the Wii to make sure they don’t come in last again.
The $200 million will be spent over the next year and is the largest advertising campaign in Nintendo’s history. You can expect to see Wii commercials starting this week. The message will focus on Wii being family-friendly and easy to use, but the main demographic being targeted is adults. 80 percent of the budget will be spent convincing adults to purchase the system and shaking off Nintendo’s traditional consumer perception of being for children and teens.
Hardcore gamers can debate which system is greater till pigs fly, the cow come home and hell freezes over. $200 million is a lot of money to spend on an advertising campaign. Nintendo is pushing for the masses with an affordable gaming console. 2007 is going to be a very interesting year.

The WWE Survivor Series Anthology DVD is yet to be released and might be out in 2008. This is a great time to start predicting the greatest matches and moments in the history of the event. Here are several matches that might be featured in a possible Survivor Series Anthology DVD. Letâs not forget the âExtrasâ with some of the greatest moments…
Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday the unusually high number of voters who didn’t choose a candidate in a congressional race in Sarasota County was worth investigating, and said the state has "the law in place to do it right."

Installing the Xbox 360’s HD DVD drive wasn’t as simple as we might have expected — it actually required an install disc instead of having 100% of the support built in with the fall update. The upshot here is the install was totally seamless (as one would expect), and only took about 3 minutes. Click on for install process shots and a quick video of the drive in action.

The setup is a little weird, in that when you pop in the drive, it detects it and gives you the HD DVD menu update we saw from before. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy (nor was support entirely rolled into the fall update).

As soon as you try to play that HD DVD, it’ll prompt you to throw in the update disc. Thankfully that process couldn’t have been easier.

Put in the disc, and it’ll load up the update.

Of course, you can always back out if you like.

A little more waiting…

Then a little updating.

And now we’re done, see how painless that was?

Now just pop out your install disc and you’re good to go.

Our favorite part, however, is the glowing green eject button.
