Quint reviews the new Michael Caine British Heist Flick FLAWLESS!!!

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a quick review of a movie you probably haven’t heard of before. In my recent undercover infiltration of the American Film Market I read about this flick called FLAWLESS. I was immediately pulled in by the premise and cast. Michael Caine stars in this heist movie set in 1960 London.

What a great idea, I thought. Outside of the OCEAN’S movies we are sorely missing those great heist movies of the ’60s and ’70s. Michael Caine himself starred in many great ones, including the underseen, but fucking great GAMBIT with Shirley MacClaine. What a great throwback.

Capone has a long-ass interview with Richard Linklater and talks FAST FOOD NATION and Criterion!!!

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Hey, everyone. Capone in Chicago here. I’ve been lucky over the years to talk to a lot of my favorite working directors, but I get an extra special kick out of interviewing the every-growing number of filmmakers that call Austin home. I’d still love to get my mits on Robert Rodriguez at some point, because I have so many questions for him about his entire career. I’m not from Austin, but I’ve never had a single bad time going there over the last seven years to attend Butt-Numb-a-Thon.

Even before I turned on my tape recorder with quintessential Austin director Richard Linklater, we spent a couple minutes just comparing notes on mutual friends and acquaintances in Austin, as well as some of our favorite haunts. But to the business at hand, Richard came to Chicago to talk about his riveting adaptation of FAST FOOD NATION, and so we did.

Another reader takes a shot at BOBBY! Although this one doesn’t aim to kill…

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I think I’m in the minority on this one, but I really liked BOBBY a whole lot. It has a few flawed moments, but I enjoyed the hell out the movie. I’ll have my review out very soon, but in the mean time here’s a review that’s slightly less critical than both Moriarty and Vern’s reviews, but still a little on the iffy side. Here’s “Iron Giant (or something)”! Enjoy!

I just saw Bobby last night and am somewhat divided on the experience. The new footage is well done and very well acted. I think that anybody who was even slightly politically aware during that period may well love this movie, it does such a great job of sentimentalizing the time.

‘English Bob’ takes a look at Shane ‘DEAD MAN’S SHOES’ Meadows’ newest: THIS IS ENGLAND!!!

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here to introduce English Bob, who saw Shane Meadows’ DEAD MAN’S SHOES follow-up THIS IS ENGLAND. I was just stalking the halls of the American Film Market and wanted to see this film bad, but due to scheduling conflicts I couldn’t make it. Luckily English Bob was on the case. Here’s his review! Enjoy!!!

Hey guys,

As promised here’s my review of Shane Meadows latest film “This Is England” which I was lucky enough to see on Halloween as part of the London Film Festival.

Where to start? Maybe a little background on where I stand with Shane Meadows body of work. Skip the next paragraph if you don’t care about what I thought about his older films.

‘leeVSbenway’ takes in a pair of flics at the Denver FF! Korean creature epic THE HOST and slasher love-letter BEHIND THE MASK!!

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a report from the Denver Film Festival where a spy has seen two of my favorite genre surprises of the year, Scott Glosserman’s BEHIND THE MASK, a great twist on the slasher story, and the Korean Creature Feature THE HOST. Both are great in their own, unique ways. Enjoy the reviews!!!

Hello All,

Greetings from the 29th Annual Denver International Film Festival! If you’ve never been to the Denver Fest you probably don’t know about the strange time/space anomaly that allows films that are already out on DVD to premier on its screens or how you can go into a film when it is 80 degrees outside and when you walk out it is a blizzard…these are just a couple of the charms of the Mile-High Fest. All in all, it is a wonderful fest full of mystery and delight (and Tim Robbins, too)! I only made my way to two screenings this weekend but both of them were knock-outs. These are both films that have been featured pretty heavily on this site but, as I found out, for very good reasons.

Our first review of the THE NATIVITY STORY, just in time for the holiday season!!!!

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a review of the upcoming Jesus Day celebration film THE NATIVITY STORY. On one hand, I think the idea of casting Keisha Castle-Hughes as Mary is really damn interesting, keeping the holy mother as creepy-young as she was in the book. On the other hand, they don’t really try to hide the Christian Cash-In post PASSION angle too much. What did our reviewer, “Bimbo Baggins”, have to say?

I can only feel slightly bitter-sweet about another “Christian” film being released by a major film studio, this time The Nativity Story by New Line. When The Passion and Narnia made a killing at the box office, Hollywood took notice and one-by-one the studios began to kick-start “moral” film divisions within their production companies.

Kristanna Loken Insists Sound Of Michelle Rodriguez Shouting ‘When You Coming Back To Bed, Baby?’ Entirely In Reporter’s Imagination

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Kristanna Loken, who hit the public’s radar somewhere around the time Arnold Schwarzenegger slammed her T-X deathbot’s head into a toilet bowl in Terminator 3, was asked recently by The Advocate…
