Which Novelist Is Scripting THE EQUALIZER Update For Paramount?!

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Was THE EQUALIZER a good series?

I don’t really remember it. I was aware of it, sure. After all, Edward Woodward was the lead in one of my favorite cult movies, the original WICKER MAN, but I just wasn’t watching much TV when the show was on the air. Honestly, I never even got the basic premise.

But when you hire novelist Michael Connelly to adapt the material and he talks about how much he loved the original series, it makes me wonder if I missed something. VARIETY reports that Connelly will script the bigscreen adaptation of the series along with Terrill Lee Lankford, another novelist and longtime collaborator of Connelly. Paul McGuigan (LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN) will direct the film.

Capone’s Been WRESTLING WITH ANGELS!!

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I really like Tony Kushner as a writer. ANGELS IN AMERICA blew my mind when I saw it performed onstage in the early ‘90s, and I think the film adaptation of it is a rare case of someone getting that sort of dense stage material right onscreen. And I love what he did on MUNICH as well. I know he’s a controversial figure, and I can admire his work without agreeing with all of his positions, but it seems like the mere mention of him pisses many people off. At any rate, I’m curious about this documentary, and I am curious to see what Capone thinks of it:

Porn industry leaning toward HD-DVD

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

sugar & spiceAn informal poll conducted by TGDaily seems to indicate that the porn industry is almost exclusively supporting HD-DVD. One small studio spokesperson cited high production costs as the primary reason PlayStation 3’s Blu-ray format would be snubbed; though he does hold the opinion that Blu-ray has “superior quality.” Still, if the porn industry sides with (or is even forced to side with) HD-DVD, it would hardly signal a death knell for Blu-ray. Porn isn’t gonna decide this format war.

From a console perspective, which disc format the porn industry ultimately chooses won’t have nearly as big an impact as could a decision by one of the console makers (Microsoft or Sony) to open up its console to a wider variety of digital video formats, coupled with a highly compatible web browser — currently PS3 has the edge (and Nintendo ain’t far behind), but the machine is far from the ideal. Any and all porn directly downloadable onto a console? That “feature” could (quietly) move units.
