Two More Reviews Of HARRY POTTER & THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX!!
Monday, March 12th, 2007Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
When I ran one spy’s reaction to this film last week, I got all sorts of angry, pissy letters from HARRY POTTER fans.
And it was a largely positive review.
So since I haven’t been called a “stupid fucko” in a week or so, I thought I’d run a few more early reviews for the film. Keep in mind, this is still being put together, and any opinion right now has to do with a work in progress, not the end result you’ll see in theaters this summer.
Here’s the first report:
Hey there. Saw a free screening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It was a while ago, but I’ve had crazy deadlines at work this week so this is a delayed review. Sorry. There’s some spoilers. I have to say, this series keeps getting better and better with every installment! How many times do we see other big franchises (Stars Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.) start off with a bang and then blow out like a candle? It’s nice to see the opposite happen with Potter: it started off slow and tiny with Chris Columbus’s so-so kiddy friendly approach and has really exploded into a series that I think will end up being far more prolific than all of those combined. Yeah that’s right, I went there. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this new one makes Lord of the Rings look like a fucking cartoon. And it was only a rough cut!
Our First Test Screening Review Of Alan Ball’s New Film Proves NOTHING IS PRIVATE!!
Monday, March 12th, 2007Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I honestly didn’t even know this one was filming, so all of this is news to me. I’m excited to see what Alan Ball does his first time at bat as a director, and I think he’s one of the rare creators in recent American television who got to wrap up a hit show on his own terms and who really nailed the ending when he got the opportunity. And I know it’s vogue to hate AMERICAN BEAUTY in hindsight, but I don’t. I think Ball’s the real deal, and I’m glad to see him taking this step.
So how’s the movie?

Two Early Reviews Of Andy Samberg In HOT ROD!!
Monday, March 12th, 2007Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
There are a number of guys who are just starting to emerge into a sort of cult stardom thanks to the current incarnation of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, and Andy Samberg is definitely one of them.
These reviews make this sounds promising. It also reminds me of a great, crazy, fucked-up little New Zealand comedy I just saw called THE DEVIL DARED ME TO, which is playing at SXSW later this week. It’s a celebration of the stupidity of the daredevil profession, and it’s early-Peter-Jackson-gory.
Is HOT ROD Samberg’s chance at bigscreen success? Let’s see what the first of our spies had to say:
A Couple Of Quick Looks At THE LAST MIMZY!!
Monday, March 12th, 2007Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I haven’t heard much about Bob Shaye’s latest directorial effort, but anything’s got to be better than BOOK OF LOVE. One thing’s for sure… if THE LAST MIMZY somehow becomes a freak hit, grossing $500 million worldwide, then forget about Sam Raimi. We’re going to see BOB SHAYE’S THE HOBBIT come 2008.
And come on… doesn’t that sound like it’d be worth your $10, either good or bad?
We’ve got two mini-reviews today. Here’s the first:
I saw The Last Mimsy on Saturday just hours after seeing 300. I had mixed emotions about seeing this film. On one hand I really liked the Lewis Padgett story “Mimsy were the Borogroves”, I story I read back in high school in the seventies. On the other hand, this is a film made by the devil’s foremost bum polisher, Bob Shaye, the man who condemns Peter Jackson. Okay, so I don’t know for sure that Bob Shaye uses asbestos chapstick and kisses his most infernal majesty’s backside, but that is the impression I get from his statements regarding using Peter Jackson for the Hobbit. Still, I try to mainstain an addititude of love the art, even when the artist looks like a walking cheese dildo.
A German Spy Has An Early PREMONITION!!
Monday, March 12th, 2007Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
My wife reeeeeeeeeeeeeally wants to see this movie.
One would suppose this is not prime fanboy fodder, and that they’re probably anticipating this about as much as they were THE LAKE HOUSE.
Let’s see what a German reader had to say about it.
Hi there.
I work at a German dubbing facility and just last week we recieved a print of a new Sandra Bullock film called “Premonition”.
I hadn’t heard of it since so I watched without expecting anything and I must say though it wasn’t great cinema it thoroughly entertained me for nearly two hours.
