The creator of the good HITCHER has a new thriller in the works called 100 FEET!!!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The original HITCHER writer/director Eric Red has a new thriller in the works called 100 FEET. And it even sounds pretty good.

Famke Janssen is attached to star in this tale about a woman in an abusive relationship. She ends up killing her husband, but he’s a persistent fucker and his ghost haunts her. Bobby Cannavale co-stars (abusive husband?).

Memflix Is Back With An Early Review Of VACANCY!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’ve heard that this one is a nasty bit of business, and that director Nimrod Antal has taken a solid script and turned it into something really intense.

What does Memflix have to say about it?

Once again, it’s Memflix, this time with a look at “Vacancy.”

Filmmakers are taking a huge risk when they place a name like “Vacancy’ on a movie. It automatically invokes headlines like “Leave this One Vacant!” or “Thrills Vacant!” Critics love it when you do their job for them.

IESB Says PRINCE OF PERSIA Has A Director!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

This hasn’t been confirmed elsewhere yet, but it certainly makes sense that Jerry Bruckheimer would turn to Michael Bay for a project this size. When I was in the editing room for PIRATES 3 last week (I’ll have that report next Monday), Jerry asked me about TRANSFORMERS and what I’ve heard so far. I know he’s one of Bay’s biggest fans, and with both of them making PG-13 action films this summer, seeing them team up on a project like this wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Bruce Campbell’s Going On VACATION With Richard Stanley?!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I really, really like Richard Stanley, and I think so far, he’s gotten a bum rap. Part of that is because he’s a prickly, hyper-intelligent guy who doesn’t seem to be able to play the studio game very well. Part of that is because of his legendary meltdown involving THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU. But I hope this report from FilmIck is correct, because if so, it means we might have some new Stanley to look forward to, and that he’ll have a really groovy movie star in the lead:

What Is THE OTHER CONQUEST, and Who Is Salvador Carrasco?

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Good questions, both answered by this spy’s report:

Hey Harry!

Just call me The Fly, I’m a film student in Los Angeles and I got a sneak peek at a film that is apparently gearing-up for a comeback, Salvador Carrasco’s “The Other Conquest.” It deals with the conquest of Mexico by the Spanish and follows a young Aztec as his life is changed forever when his culture and even faith are changed drastically by the invading Europeans and their dogmatic fever to convert everyone to Catholicism (not to mention steal their land and resources). The director, Salvador Carrasco, is one of Mexico’s brightest talents and was at a dinner event recently with the three amigos Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo Del Toro. Carrasco has been laying low and I got to see the movie when he lectured to my class. “The Other Conquest” was first released in Mexico in 2000 and became a major box office smash before “Amores Perros” and was put out on limited release in the U.S. and now it’s coming back May 4.

Dr. Worm’s Had A Quick Peek At The Wachowski-Supervised THE INVASION!!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I have to admit, I just can’t work up much enthusiasm for yet another retelling of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. It’s decent material, but I feel like it’s been pretty thoroughly mined at this point. I’m sure it’ll be professional, and I expect it’ll have some moments, but unless there’s some great subtext that I’m not picking up on yet, I’m not really sure why anyone felt the need to do this again.

Here’s Dr. Worm with a description of the trailer he just saw for the film, the first definitive info we’ve had on how the film is tackling the material:

James Bond Has Passed Away?

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Indeed he has. Barry Nelson was the first onscreen Bond in the TV version of CASINO ROYALE. I’ve never had a chance to see his performance in the role, something I hope someone rectifies via DVD in the near future.

But Nelson was definitely a familiar face, one of those hard-working character actors whose career started in the ‘40s and spanned nearly 50 years.

I’m sorry we haven’t posted on this earlier, but here’s the gentle reminder I was sent earlier today.

So… William Shatner? Watch Out Bruce Banner Wants To Fight You, Just Don’t Get Him Angry!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hey folks, Harry here - about 3 days ago a source sent in a scoop that Edward Norton would be playing Bruce Banner aka The Hulk… Tonight - the story hits VARIETY - so it’s confirmed, Edward Norton dons the purple pants and lab coat. Personally - other than my fetishistic desire to see Steve Buscemi as Bruce Banner… heh… well - that’s my own personal fantasy - but there ain’t a damn thing wrong with the casting of Edward Norton - he could do wonders with the Banner/Hulk bit.
