Gerard Butler locked in for a futuristic thriller… No, not ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK: The Remake, another one!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here.

Another bit of news has come out of Cannes, besides the breaking news that I wish I was there of course, this time concerning Gerard Butler joining a futuristic thriller called GAME. The flick is the brainchild of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (CRANK) and is being produced by Lakeshore.

This sounds a little fucked up. It’s kind of based in the world of video games. Where do we go from here? Well, it seems that it’s not enough to manipulate and control fictional creations on a TV screen, so this future has people controlling other human beings through nano-devices. Butler plays Kable, a world-wide sensation and top ranked warrior in a game called SLAYERS. He tries to regain his humanity and topple the system, all while being watched by millions of viewers.

Confirmed… Iggy Pop gets some Wood! THE PASSENGER filming this year!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here.

I remember hearing about this project, THE PASSENGER, a little while ago, a biopic about Iggy Pop with Elijah Wood starring as the singer. Then it kinda disappeared. Now it has resurfaced and it looks like they got their budget and are on track to film this year with Wood still in the lead and Nick Gomez (DROWNING MONA) directing. Iggy Pop won’t be directly involved, but they say the production has his blessing.

Remake mania continues! This time, the obvious remake… the one everybody’s clamoring for… TAPS?

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I really don’t care enough about the original TAPS to feel offended at the idea of remaking it, but I do feel a little like, “Why?” There are so many good stories to tell, why spend the effort with this remake?

That’s not to say that I dislike the original. I haven’t seen it in a long while, but I remember it being really solid. I guess I really just don’t love it enough to be all fire and brimstone on the idea of remaking it…

20th Century Fox is producing it, Frank E. Flowers (HAVEN) will write and possibly direct.

That was quick… It’s not Walter Hill, but it looks like the PUNISHER 2 director could be…

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here.

After the story I posted yesterday (and, yes, I know fudged the popsicle reference, but my point is still the same) where Thomas Jane announced he was leaving the PUNISHER series it looks like the hunt was on to figure out who was filling in the director’s chair.

Freeze Dried Movies says that John Dahl (THE GREAT RAID, ROUNDERS) is in “major talks.” I can’t confirm he’ll direct, but my sources at Lionsgate did mention he was in the running. Also in the running was HOOLIGANS director Lexi Alexander.
