No more POMPEII for Polanski!!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Roman Polanski was supposed to helm the giant $100 million epic POMPEII, but they’ve put the kibosh on it because 2008 is the year of looming strikes. We’ve heard about the Writer’s strike, but what hasn’t been talked about as much is that both the Director’s Guild and Screen Actor’s Guilds have contracts expiring in June, so there’s more than a small chance we’ll be seeing the power politics shit being played out again.

It’s because of these looming strike possibilities that agents aren’t committing their clients to appearing in anything after June 30th. That is fucking the 18 months of preproduction that has gone into this giant flick and Polanski has decided to shelve it.

Jason Reitman’s next flick JUNO starring Ellen Page, Jason Bateman and Michael Cera screens!!!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I loved Jason Reitman’s freshman effort, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING and his next flick, JUNO, has been something I’ve been following since it was first announced. Reitman’s an exciting darkly comic voice in film right now and it looks like he’s getting even better with this one. Thanks to Anant for the review! I can’t wait to see this one for myself. Just to see Ellen Page, Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, JK Simmons and Rainn Wilson in the same movie is enough to get me in the theater… Enjoy the review!!!

Harry,

The Weinsteins stumble around looking for brains with George Romero!!!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I’m really interested in seeing Romero talk at the Alamo in 9 days time when he opens Fantastic Fest with DIARY OF THE DEAD. I’ve nearly missed him a couple of times in the last few years, having been out of town for his last big Alamo event and there was an interview in Pittsburgh that fell through as I was in town.

So, I’ll finally get to see the man in the flesh… maybe I’ll get him to sign my original DAWN OF THE DEAD one-sheet I have framed in my bedroom… I am a geek. I’m not ashamed!

The good news is that The Weinstein Co.

Takeshi Kitano is the man and he a new movie called GLORY TO THE FILMMAKER that played Toronto! Anton Sirius will tell ya’ more!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I know that it’s your honest opinion, Anton, but you know who Takeshi Kitano is, right? You know he could kill you with just one eyebrow hair, right? I’m glad you’re stepping up and being a man, telling it as you see it, but you better Yakuza/Ninja/MXC Champion-proof your house tonight. Sleep with the lights on, man…

As far as I’m concerned, Kitano is one of the five greatest living filmmakers, capable of doing almost anything behind a camera.

Broad comedy, however, is apparently not one of those things.
