Eastern Promises / **** (R)

Friday, September 14th, 2007

“Eastern Promises” (R, 96 minutes). One of David Cronenberg’s finest films with Viggo Mortensen as a driver for the Russian Mafia in London, and Naomi Watts as a midwife determined to protect the life of newborn infant. A diary leads her to the sealed world of the Russians, led by Armin Mueller-Stahl as the patriarch and Vincent Cassel as his son; the result into exactly a crime story, but a thriller about human nature. Scenes of startling violence. Rating: Four stars.

Across the Universe / **** (PG-13)

Friday, September 14th, 2007

“Across the Universe” (PG-13, //// minute). Here is a bold, beautiful, visually-enchanting musical where we walk (ital) into (unital) the theater humming the songs. Julie Taymor’s “Across the Universe” is an audacious marriage of cutting-edge visual techniques, heart-warming performances, 1960s history, and the Beatles song book.

When will we see the first INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL trailer?

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I got a tip-off earlier today (from someone who should know) with some info on when to expect the INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL trailer. Take it as a big rumor, but it looks like it’ll hit with BEOWULF, which comes out in November. Sure, that’s a pretty obvious target… it’s a big Paramount movie and Lucas dropped a hint earlier in the year saying the first trailer would hit around Thanksgiving… but rumor also has it that John Williams is currently working on the music for the trailer… New John Williams INDIANA JONES music… or a new arrangement of old John Williams INDIANA JONES music… either way, I’m getting giddy as a schoolboy just thinking about it.
